EHH is proud to announce that, as part of a very special 2026 General Assembly edition, it has organised part of its programme at the European Parliament, including a high-level roundtable discussion under the theme “Historic Houses as Drivers of Rural Growth in Europe”, and an exhibition titled “Heritage at Heart: Historic Houses and Gardens as the Cultural Foundations of Europe”.
The roundtable, held on June 2, focused on the role of historic houses as key assets for Europe’s rural development, cultural heritage, and sustainable tourism. Bringing together representatives from the European Commission, MEPs, and representatives from national historic houses associations, the discussion highlighted how privately owned heritage buildings contribute to local economies and territorial cohesion, among other areas, underlining the need to improve access to EU funding.
The exhibition celebrated its official opening on June 2, and was on display for visitors between June 1-5. Curated around four key themes, it explored the role historic houses and gardens play in preserving Europe’s shared cultural heritage. From showcasing remarkable architectural diversity to supporting sustainable tourism and rural vitality, its message is clear: these places are much more than silent monuments.
