Our NextGen Annual Conference 2026 took place between April 24 and 26.
Under the title of Embracing the Future of Historic Houses: Engagement, Education, Community, the last edition’s conference was held at Perth Racecourse, where attendees were welcomed by the owners of the historic Scone Palace for the Black Tie Ball.
Scone Palace, known as The Crowning Place of Scottish Kings, is a magnificent Neo-Gothic historic house and the ancestral home of the Earls of Mansfield, who have been resident for over 400 years and continue to steward the property today. Set within historic grounds that have been cultivated for over nine hundred years, featuring a captivating blend of formal and informal gardens, modern plantings, a breathtaking walled garden, and one hundred acres of enchanting woodland. Next year will be a landmark year as Scone Palace celebrates its 60th Anniversary of being open to the public.
A few highlights on the speakers:
Viscount Stormont is the owner and strategic lead of Scone Palace & Estates, a modern diversified rural family business. In sharing how he personally prepared himself for leadership, we explored his family’s experience running an Historic House enterprise for the past 60 years; through 5 generations, 3 successions, and significant evolution.
James Erskine guided us through topics of class, inequality and love as he shared his experience shepherding the Cambo Estate – home to his family since the 1700’s – in the modern era. Following a successful career as a theatre producer, James has been in charge of the estate since 2021.
We are thrilled to have co-organised this event with our member association Historic Houses (UK). We send a sincere thank you for an excellent collaboration so far!
